The W. D. Richards Elementary School designed by Edward Larrabee Barnes was complete in 1964. In 1994 the School corporation decided to undertake an expansion and renovation of the school. Included in the 20,000 square feet of new construction are: nine new classrooms, a new library and computer laboratory, a new cafeteria, loading dock facilities, and a new entry courtyard with bus turn-around. The 20,000 square foot renovation also includes: a school-wide network of computer and media wiring; new lighting and ceilings throughout; a complete renovation of the existing food service preparation area; soundproofing the existing music room, and a newly renovated reception and administration area.
