This enclosure stretching across a 40-metre wide area represents the largest span of any woodenframed structure designed until now by Makona. This structure is developed in a way that significantly differs from the traditional, main supporting beam plus side supporting beam system usually seen in engineering. The fact that the structure’s spatial play of forces occurs in the plane of its curved shell is also a meaningful departure from the system of slanting supports commonly found in organic architecture. In fact, this solution bears a surprising resemblance to Nervi's reinforced concrete structures. To put it simply, the play of forces is the same as the relationship seen between the staves forming a barrel. The main hall measures 54 metres in length.
