  • Charles Jencks, Strange Attractor
After the lecture by Charles Jencks, delivered at the NAi Maastricht on March 13, a former student of Delft University of Technology asked me if a snapshot was taken of Jencks. 'He is an icon', she continued. 'Twenty years ago it was all theory, and look what he does now!'
    ArchiNed.nl – news
In this article, I try to take seriously Jencks’s remark that culture should find an iconographic language to connect us to the universe. Jencks’s lectures, answers and gardens seem to resemble the cosmos when it comes to beginnings, centres and ends…

    ArchiNed.nl – news
Ask 10 critics, architects and curators to each choose 10 architects. Proclaim that they form '100 of the world's most exceptional emerging architects'. Publish it complete with introductions and acknowledgements in a strikingly packaged 'weighty' to…

The car windscreen offers a window on the world in 'World Avenue', the central exhibition of the Architecture Biennale Rotterdam. The main gallery of the NAi has been converted into a drive-in cinema for the occasion, with nine screens on rotating stages showing video footage of motorways in nine world cities.

  • Venice Bienniale - Preview
This summer - from June through to November 2000 - the new Architecture Biennale will be held in Venice. The Biennale offers an overview of what is current in the world of architecture (and related work in visual art) in the participating countries. The scenario for this year's event was drawn up by the Italian Massimiliano Fuksas, the flamboyant and - in Italy - not uncontroversial architect. Ahead of the opening, those interested can gain a preview on the Internet, where a rapidly growing exhibition of participants' work is in the making.
    ArchiNed.nl – news
Fuksas has built the forthcoming Biennale around the theme 'Cities': the city as context characterised by permanent crisis. According to Fuksas, architects cannot be permitted to adopt a cynical attitude towards the city - the enormous impact of the …
