Rainer studied 1953/54 professor at the technical university in Hanover, 1955 in Graz, at the technical university in Vienna, starting from 1932 independently, 1956-80 directors/conductors of the master school for architecture at the academy of the forming arts in Vienna, 1958-63 town planners of Vienna.
Roland Rainer developed a coherent theory from the einzelhaus to the town construction in numerous publications. For private houses Rainer publicises nature near living in the consolidated low rise building and seizes ideas from the antiquity (atrium-type building) and the Orient on (garden city Puchenau with Linz, 1966-82); for large public buildings Rainer uses a express-iv-constructional language as a sign of democratic representation (town hall Vienna, 1955-58; Town hall Ludwigshafen, 1962-65).
