  • The Projective Bubble
The discussion generated by the Projective Landscape congress at the TU Delft on March 16 and 17 continues. Dirk van den Heuvel sent the following response to ArchiNed.

How can you be engaged in a polemic about something that doesn’t even exist? That depressing thought hit me during the ‘Projective Landscape’ debate staged by Stylos. The aim was to pinpoint the latest developmen…

  • Rem Koolhaas in the Berlage
On February 7 in a packed Berlage Institute - it's about time they got round to making a decent lecture theatre there - Rem Koolhaas delivered the final lecture in the Projective Theory series that started with Peter Eisenman on October 11 last year.

Given that Koolhaas thinks of the Berlage as his back garden, we weren't in for a real presentation but simply some 'collected material'. It began in very serious fashion. Who starts a lecture by showing a picture of the Parthenon? He d…

  • Monument with a question mark
Between Brandenburger Tor and Potsdamer Platz in the heart of Berlin, close to Hitler's bunker and his Chancellery, and not far from the Reichstag, is a site crossed by the Wall fifteen years ago. Today the site is a field of grey concrete blocks, the Denkmal für die ermordete Juden Europas (Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe), designed by architect Peter Eisenman.

The holocaust memorial was inaugurated on May 10, 2005, after 17 years of plans and heated debate. The initiative came from publicist Lea Rosh in 1998 when she called for the creation of a national memorial in Berlin to commemo…

  • Ground Zero
A week after the collapse of the Twin Towers in New York, gallery-owner Max Protech approached architects, designers, and museum directors - in short, his entire circle of friends - and asked them to come up with ideas for a new World Trade Center to rise from the ashes of Ground Zero.
    ArchiNed.nl – news
Protech was responding to the catastrophe as probably every architect did after the initial shock: What can be built to replace the destroyed towers? For some, his response may seem rather odd, as though architects would jump with jo…
